Denmark: Immigrant's education hurt by bad Danish

Despite years of effort, many young immigrants speak very bad Danish, that they have difficulty finishing technical education, says the Danish Confederation of Trade Unions (LO) in their weekly paper.

They have spoken with 608 teachers at technical schools and more than 60% say that students of immigrant background are harder to teach than Danish youth. And the main cause is that they don't speak good Danish.

A third of the teachers think that immigrant youth have other expectations from education than Danish youth and just as many teachers think that they are less motivated than Danish students.

Manu Sareen, an integration consultant and member of the Copenhagen city council for the Social Liberals says that trade schools have an impossible task, because colleges provide the youth with very basic education.
