Netherlands: Youth attitudes towards Fitna and Islam

Top-X, the youth panel of EenVandaag answered a survey about Fitna and their attitude towards Islam. It is interesting to compare the results to those from the show's adult panel. More adults feared Islam, and less Muslims felt offended by the movie.

----

About 75% saw Fitna, mostly due to curiosity. 64% of the boys, compared with 38% of the girls. 83% said they had spoken with friends or classmates about the movie.

33% thought Fitna was insulting to Muslims. 85% of the 200 Muslim youth who took part in the survey thought it was offensive.

75% thought a lot of fuss was made over nothing. 20% fear the consequences of the movie. Among Muslims 27% fear the consequences, though this has gone down sharply compared with the 50% who said so earlier this year.

10% of the youth think more negatively about Muslims after seeing Fitna. 31% think Islam is out to destroy Western society.

People talk about being offended when they should be talking about being embarrassed and ashamed.

The cultures are worlds apart. That leaves me with very little hope for peace.
